macOS High Sierra – Now Available
Apple today announced macOS High Sierra, the latest release of the world’s most advanced desktop operating system, is now available as a free update.
With macOS High Sierra, Mac users gain powerful new core storage, video and graphics technologies. A new file system (APFS) ensures more efficient and reliable storage, and support for High-Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) brings stunning 4K video at lower file sizes. Metal 2 powers virtual reality content creation, faster performance and more. The Core ML developer framework makes it easy to create apps with powerful machine learning that predict, learn and become more intelligent. macOS High Sierra also includes a number of refinements to the apps Mac users enjoy everyday, including Photos and Safari.
Upgrading to High Sierra
Before you rush into upgrading your business to the new macOS, there are a few things to consider.
You may already be aware of some of the challenges your business might face in upgrading to a new OS – needing to control who upgrades when, and ensuring as little downtime as possible. With High Sierra, you’ll also need to consider the impact of the APFS on a mixed Mac environment, changes to best-practices deployment techniques and compatibility with 3rd party software and utilities.
There are a number of reported bugs and issues with the initial release of High Sierra. Due to this, we strongly recommend users do not upgrade to High Sierra at this time.
For our Managed Services and ITaaS customers, we will work with you on the change management planning of implementing this upgrade. Until then, we may be limited in our ability to provide support if users manually perform the OS upgrade and run into any compatibility issues.
For all other environments, we can support you in your transition to Apple’s new macOS. If you’d like an audit on your existing estate, we can help you work out how best to transition seamlessly with minimal downtime and deployment workflow modifications.
